The car has been used for a long time, and there will be a smell in the car. At this time, it is necessary to consider how to purify some of the air in the car.

Many people may think that it is not simple to have a problem with the air in the car, just open the windows for ventilation. This is indeed the easiest way, and there are other methods available to purify the air in the car, such as using activated charcoal, spraying air fresheners or perfumes, using air purifiers, etc.

01. Open windows for ventilation and use internal circulation

Opening windows for ventilation is the easiest and most necessary method. Especially in new cars, be sure to open the windows frequently to allow air circulation.

However, it should be reminded that driving ventilation must be done when the outside air quality is relatively good. If the haze is very serious, it is recommended not to open the windows for ventilation, but to open the internal circulation system of the air conditioner in the car as much as possible.

As we all know, the external circulation state is to use the fan to suck the air outside the car into the car, that is to say, the air passages outside the car and the car are in circulation, and the wind from the fan comes from outside the car, even if the fan is not turned on, the vehicle is running. There is still airflow drawn into the car, replenishing the fresh air inside the car.

But in hazy weather, high concentrations of suspended pollutants or inhalable particulate matter can easily enter the car with the open windows. The internal circulation state is to close the airflow channels inside and outside the vehicle to form an air circulation inside the vehicle.

It can effectively prevent external dust and harmful gases from entering the car, such as blocking the harmful exhaust from the preceding vehicle when passing through smoke, dust, odor areas or when the vehicle is driving densely and compactly. Therefore, on hazy days, car owners should turn on the internal circulation system of the air conditioner in the car.

02. Use activated carbon

Activated carbon is currently the most effective, safest, and easiest way for car owners. Activated carbon has the characteristics of many pores and has a strong adsorption effect on harmful substances such as formaldehyde. The smaller the particle, the better the adsorption effect. Moreover, the use of activated carbon is a physical method and will not produce secondary pollution.

However, it should be noted that the activated carbon package has a service cycle and is only valid for a certain period of time. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to replacing it in time.

03. Spray air freshener or perfume

Many people think that the air quality in the car is not good, so they buy perfume, air freshener, etc. to spray, and the aroma in the car is overwhelming, but in fact, this has no effect on removing harmful gases.

Perfume itself certainly does not have the function of decomposing and degrading harmful substances in the car, and can only play the role of covering the smell. Moreover, the current perfume brands on the automotive supplies market are mixed, and the quality is difficult to guarantee, and some of the harmful ingredients will aggravate the chemical pollution in the car.

As for air fresheners, it does not have the effect of decomposing harmful substances at all, but will accelerate the excess of formaldehyde and benzene in the air in the car, causing "secondary pollution".

04. Using photocatalyst and ozone

Nowadays, many auto service shops have introduced methods such as photocatalyst and ozone to purify the air of new cars. Photocatalyst is a general term for photo-semiconductor materials with photocatalytic function represented by nano-scale titanium dioxide. It coats the surface of air conditioners or car interiors and produces strong catalytic degradation under the action of light including visible light and ultraviolet light - energy. It can effectively degrade toxic and harmful gases in the air in the car; it can effectively kill a variety of bacteria, and can decompose and harmlessly treat the toxins released by bacteria or fungi; it also has functions such as deodorization and antifouling. Photocatalyst is currently one of the safest materials for air purification. This method works quickly, but the treatment effect on formaldehyde pollution is not obvious.

Ozone has the function of sterilization and disinfection. However, ozone only purifies and disinfects harmful gases in the existing air. In fact, many harmful gases in cars take a long time to volatilize, especially the formaldehyde generated during interior decoration, which may volatilize for up to 15 years. Therefore, the purification effect of ozone is limited, and it is easy to cause secondary pollution.

05. Use an air purifier

At present, many new models are equipped with "negative ion generators" or onboard air purification devices. These devices can eliminate odors, toxic and harmful gases, bacteria and viruses in the car, and other in-car pollution, and can play a role in improving the air quality in the car.

If the car itself is not equipped with an air purification system, you may wish to purchase an in-car air purification device.
